Summer Update (I) →
I’ve been making these wonderful HD mutli-megabits per second videos into fantastic lunchable sized doses of imagery. Feel free to share and modify!
Here is my second video. This was shot in Northern Arizona as well. I used music from a friend again. I will likely keep exploring non-traditional aspect ratios.

Why movies often look so bad in 3-D. →
Movies shown from 3-D projectors often look underlit. When the screen does not have enough light the image quality will drop dramatically. This is a problem with digital projectors and 3-D projectors. Even for non 3-D films they will often be shown through a 3-D lens which can cut over 50% of the light.

I’m attending what will likely be a very great seminar from the Institute of Humane Studies. Every day we will have several talks. There are readings and discussion groups planned for each day as well. If you have any tips for good bars close to the Wake Forest campus, let me know!
This is one my recent videos. My goal is to produce one video or animation a week for this summer.
I shot this video while out in Northern Arizona. The music comes from one of my friends who I got permission to use. I didn’t want to use professional music since that is usually so well done and complete that adding amateur visuals really just takes away.

Does Delegated Enforcement Crowd out Peer... →
From the National Bureau of Economic Research:
This paper compares two methods to encourage socially optimal provision of a public good. We compare the efficacy of vigilante justice, as represented by peer-to-peer punishment, to delegated policing, as represented by the “hired gun” mechanism, to deter free riding and improve group welfare. The “hired gun” mechanism (Andreoni and Gee, 2011) is...

Suburban transformation:
chicken farms -> elementary schools
(elementary schools built in the last 10 years look like chicken farms from the air)
I hear that we are running out of land for airports. Even large cities have lots of spare land around them. How much land do airports really need. Taking that much land in one place is costly since it monopolizes every acre within...
Airplane flights and Samurai fights.
Got off the plane in Atlanta on the B concourse. Next to my gate was the brew house for Sweetwater brewing. I immediately got the Happy Ending Imperial stout. This was their seasonal release. I enjoyed how nutty and dark the beer was. Messy like a German chocolate cake. Every sip of the beer left my upper lip caked with the strong foamy head that persisted for the entire pint. I finished up that...

Memorandum concerning the death fog last night
I was very concered with how little visbility I had last night, while driving. I hope you were able to get home safely. I haven’t been that terrified in a car for a long time. I can see how fog can be so deadly in car accidents. Nothing really helps when you only have 20-40 feet of visibility for a 20 minute drive.

This is a classic example of game theory, the prisoner’s dilemma. There are several approaches to this game that lead to useful results. If we consider this game a repeatable game we are often able to build towards the strategy where everyone is better off.

Price and Appreciation of Wine →
One of my preferred economic blogs had a good discussion of why the recent study of wine prices and appreciations didn’t find much of a correlation. This is a quick summary of what they had to say.
There are several things we can consider now as a thought experiment. Suppose we have hundreds of different styles of wine. For each style of wine there are particular group of people who prefer...
